Boyne Falls, MI

Boogie to BOYNE!

Get ready for a fantastic journey as Women on Wheels® heads to Boyne Mountain Resort located in the northwest corner of Lower Michigan, July 8-11, 2008, for our Boogie to BOYNE! The area is known for scenic country, quaint shopping districts, sandy beaches, calm blue waters, distinct eateries, stunning sunsets and lots more!

At the resort, you'll discover plenty of activities for every interest. There's the multi-level 18,000 square foot Solace Spa offering a full menu of services and spa journeys guaranteeing relaxation and rejuvenation. In addition to stellar services, spa goers can indulge in private whirlpool tubs, eucalyptus steam showers, cedar saunas, tranquil sitting areas, an indoor/outdoor swimming pool, deluxe fitness center, and sign-up for classes like gentle yoga, cycling or mat Pilates. Next door, the fun continues at Avalanche Bay - Michigan's largest indoor water park, where adventure rides, slides and attractions are in store for the whole family. Kids will delight in crossing the floating icebergs of Haute Route and shooting hoops at Blizzard Bay, while adults can soak in the Glacier Hot Springs, or join up on a double-tube for a plunge down the Super-G slide or Vertigo cannon bowl. The main stay of the park is Splasherhorn Mountain, a three-story interactive tower that announces the arrival of an avalanche every 15 minutes with a deep rumble and 800 gallons of water. Watch out below!

Head outdoors to find a plethora of activities including two 18-hole golf courses, scenic chairlift rides, a disc golf course, miles of hiking and biking trails, tennis courts and pond fishing. And for the ultimate fun in the sun, take the short cruise down to Deer Lake, a mere two miles from the center of Boyne Mountain, to glide along in paddleboats and kayaks or take in the breathtaking views while dining at the Beach House Restaurant.

Northern Michigan's comfortable summer days and crisp nights lend themselves perfectly for cruises all around this beautiful region. Head to Boyne City, a small waterfront community surrounded by lush forests and rolling hills, or ride through Petoskey's Historic Gaslight District where the refinement of an earlier era combines with classic natural beauty to create a unique destination that houses art galleries, boutiques, furnishing shops and book stores. From Petoskey, continue north through Harbor Springs, another must-explore town, and follow Route 119 along the Tunnel of Trees. This narrow and twisted roadway hugs the western shoreline of Lake Michigan and travels through dense forestry before ending in Cross Village. But don't turn around just yet. Cross Village has much to explore as one of the oldest settlements in the state of Michigan. Dine for lunch or dinner at Leg's Inn, a popular destination that offers a fantasy-like atmosphere with medieval looking stone, driftwood sculptures and polished wooden furniture. And explore Cross Village's lovely sand beaches and crystal-clear waters too.
